The connection between inner conscience and suffering: an attempt at basic clarification

The presented work focuses on the connection between conscience and suffering and the main basic clarification of the two. This is demonstrated using a specific example from Czech history, on the activities of Charter 77, in connection with the legacy of Jan Patočka. First, the work sheds light on ethical notions such as morality, morals, conscience, and suffering, as well as the ethical categories of good and evil. Then the activity, the meaning of Charter 77, is characterized as a practical example of working with the moral aspects of man. The thesis' major purpose was to uncover and examine Jan Patoka's attitude toward conscience and suffering as a result of fidelity to one's own principles in relation to Charter 77. The conclusion illustrates the importance of man as a human being with its values. Especially when it comes to pedagogical practice. The work is theoretical and in its central part explains the states of conscience and suffering in relation to man.
The phenomenon of home and its importance for education

The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the importance and significance of the home phenomenon in terms of the education of the human individual. The work captures the development of views on this issue from the perspective of ancient, Czech and world philosophers. The philosophy of the home will be further discussed from the point of view of Patočka and Lévinas. The work will also try to offer some answers to some current questions of society, which relate to the home and its loss. The issue of education and care for the soul are also discussed.

This thesis focuses on the key question of Patocka"s thinking - care of the soul. In Patocka"s texts it represents the difference between life based on opinions accepted without critical thinking or practical decisions, called naive life, and life based on critical examining. In my opinion, this dichotomy between the two "ways of life" makes some kind of backbone of Patocka"s Plato and Socrates interpretations in his postwar lectures. The philosopher in Patocka"s texts is Socrates. He first reveals the soul as "the most inherent nature of man", that needs to be taken care of. Aware of this Patocka approaches two other great Greek philosophers - Plato and Aristotle as well as the periods of Christianity, Renaissance and Enlightenment. This on the one hand means certain degree of adoption of Socrates" "care of the soul" but on the other hand falling away from it. In the time of Renaissance and especially during Enlightenment a new spiritual style "care of the world" is being born. This leads, according to Patocka, to such kind of understanding the being, that definite abandonment of Socrates" "care of the soul" follows, and the fixed essence of man is in jeopardy. Socratic Question as a Basis of the Care for One's Soul According to Jan Patocka

This thesis deals with the topic of the Socratic question as a basis of the care for one's soul in Patocka's texts within the period from 30th to 50th years of the 20th century. This topic is here divided into three larger coherent units. The first part deals with the Patocka's understanding of Socratic care for one's soul as a historical moral self-creation of man having a character of negatively oriented transcension, which is not determined by ideas, but associated in its way of distance from objectivity with motive of knowing unknowing about the last good. The second part of this thesis deals with Patocka's comprehending of Plato as a creator of metaphysical thinking, in which core stands this negatively oriented experience of Socratic moral reversal. Plato, however, this experience of originally unobjectivated horizon according to Patocka's interpretation objectivates as the world of eternal ideas. Patocka as a central interpretative motive of this experience inserts in his own interpretation of Plato the term of Being inspired by Heidegger, which is very close to Plato's Idea of Good laying beyond all divides of essence (ἐπέκεινα τῆς οὐσίας). Care about soul as basis of selfeducation

The thesis deals with the interpretation of the 'soul care' theme supplemented by the considerations falling within the educational philosophy. The author of the thesis puts forvard three crucial questions as set in the introduction: What is the 'soul care' and what does it include? What would be the possibilities of getting back to this concept in the current times and would this be possible indeed? What role performs the school within the concept of 'soulcare' and what is the teacher's role? The thesis is divided in three parts denoting the comprehension of the concept of the soul in the Ancient times, in the New Age, within Patočka's concept of history and life movements and questioning, dialogue and discovering the sole origin as properties which are vitally important for the soul movement. The 'soul care' is also closely connected with the phenomenon of freedom as the freedom towards something which helps to found us and to form us. The necessity of the 'soul care' update has been gradually occuring and the primary role in such course of education belongs to school as the main contributory.

Care of the Soul and Problem of Education The Czech philosopher Jan Patočka shows two different modalities of soul concepts while thinking about Jan Amos Komenský's heritage for contemporary pedagogy. The close-set soul conceptus supposes simply recognizeable world, modern ideas of its controllability and scientific structure scheme. Education, which means care of the soul in three ways - care of the soul in the sense of cosmos order, in the sense of public and in the personal way, means (following close-set conceptus) formation, preparation and setting up the undone young being for life in the modern society. Reflexions of our contemporary situation find out, that modern situation appears as a crisis. This crisis demands a new approach to education, which could be found in the open-set soul concept. The open-set soul could be described as something incomplete, which is searching its fundamentals all the time. Another characteristic shows affinity of the soul for something superior or sense of own finality. Education in this way unveils itself like repeatedly reached humanity. This kind of education does not mean formation or setting up, this kind of education means revealing context of the world, society and finally own personality. Open-set mind should bring responsibility through this revealing....

A critical introduction to the relation between philosophy and education as a phenomenon in postmodern times. We can perceive it as three separate units. The boundaries between them are historical rather than thematic. In the first unit we livelily pursue Plato. In the second unit we discover Patočka's thoughts on philosophy and education. And in the last one we immerse in thematically similar mooded work of Hogenová. During our journey we gradually, but very delicately, discover the common presence of these three philosophers in one philosophical tradition. Art and Care of Soul in Jan Patočka

Summary: This work approaches Patočka's philosophy of art from the perspective of ‚care of the soul'. The first part of work describes evolution of the ‚care of the soul' in context of Patočka's philosophy of history from he 30s up to 70s. Based on this description I recognize experience of the soul as the experience of human freedom as inseparable from the ethical and methaphysical dimensions. The second part approaches art from this perspective.Patočka's intepretations of art show that Patočka saw art not only as a manifestation of human freedom, but as reflection of human position in the world and his relation to aletheia as well. However, art stays half way between myth and philosophy due to the fact, that the movement of freedom is not as absolute in art as it is in philosophy. This is evident in expressions that art takes from the fields of our emotions and experience and thus still remains for Patočka in connection with the world and our everydayness. Therefore art represents for Patočka only limited experience of the soul. It is mostly the momentum of transcendence that is important and interesting for Patočka in art, but not the results that, no matter how deep, are still insights about the things in the world. Care of the soul as a philosophical problem

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the care of soul. The goal of the work is to express what is meant by care of the soul and to remind its importance and its role in human life, especially at young age. The concept of soul and the ways of its development are very closely connected with the Greek concept of paideia, which is elaborated on in Plato's work and which foreshadows the beginning of pedagogy as a science. Therefore, the bachelor thesis focuses also on education and tries to pay attention to its meaning and essence. The thesis is based on Plato's dialogues and Patočka's texts, especially on his extensive writings and lectures on the topic of the care of soul. This work is written, when the key method is the analysis of selected texts using Czech literature as primary and foreign as secondary. The work is divided into 5 chapters. First two form a theoretical introduction to the context of the age of ancient thinkers and the issue of care of soul. The third chapter focuses on Plato's work itself. It deals with the educational curriculum introduced in the Republic with reference to the parable related to it. The fourth chapter looks on the work of Jan Patočka, who is considered the most important Czech thinker focusing on this issue. The last chapter is devoted to the possibilities...
